HOW TO MEDITATE USING MALA BEADS

Here's a step-by-step guide on how to meditate using mala beads:
  1. Find a quiet space: Sit comfortably with your back straight, in a quiet and peaceful environment.
  2. Set your intention: Define your meditation goal, such as relaxation, focus, or spiritual growth.
  3. Hold the mala: Grasp the mala beads in your right hand, with the guru bead or pendant facing you.
  4. Start with a prayer: Say a prayer or mantra to dedicate your practice and set a positive tone.
  5. Focus on your breath: Close your eyes and bring attention to your breath, feeling the sensation of the air entering and leaving your nostrils.
  6. Begin counting: Move the first bead with your thumb and middle finger*, reciting your chosen mantra or focusing on your breath.
  7. Repeat and move: Continue reciting your mantra or focusing on your breath, moving to the next bead with each repetition.
  8. Reach the guru bead or pendant: When you reach the guru bead or pendant, pause, reflect, and acknowledge your progress.
  9. Reverse direction: Turn the mala around and start moving in the opposite direction, repeating the process.
  10. End with gratitude: Finish your meditation by expressing gratitude for the practice and its benefits.

Tips:

  • Start with shorter sessions (10-15 minutes) and gradually increase time as you become more comfortable with the practice.
  • Use a consistent mantra or focus to maintain concentration.
  • Don't worry if your mind wanders - gently bring attention back to your chosen focus.
  • Make meditation a regular habit to experience the benefits of mala bead meditation.

Remember, the goal of mala bead meditation isn't to reach a specific number, but to cultivate mindfulness, focus, and inner peace.

* Why the middle finger and not your pointer? Because the pointer is linked to ego and we want to keep ego out of meditation.
